In the following text I would like to consider the performances that took place during the exchange of artists from Poland and the USA in 2003 under the name Juliett 484. This project took place at a very specific moment in the history of both countries. I would like to analyse it from the perspective of a contemporary participant of culture, after almost twenty years. This is difficult because no reliablefactual description of it has survived. I am mostinterested in the political and social contexts,and within them especially the issue of personal freedom, which was severely restricted in bothcountries at the time.
